The first marine college in Coimbatore was founded in 2001 and is called Coimbatore Marine College (CMC). CMC is associated with Indian Maritime University (IMU), Chennai, and has been approved by the Government of India's Director General of Shipping.

The Indian Registry of Shipping has assigned it an A1 Grade in CIP. Furthermore, Bureau Veritas has certified the college to ISO 9001:2015. Since 2001, this college has been recognised as one of Coimbatore's top-tier marine institutes.

The TS Clarissa is a ship that CMC has on campus that was created using the real-time model. Students can visualise and experience firsthand how a ship functions thanks to this vessel. Bridge operations and automation can be practiced on simulators.

Admission to the BBA in Logistics and Shipping is available to students who have completed their 10+2 coursework. Admissions to the MBA programme in logistics and shipping are granted to candidates with a qualifying IMU-CET and an appropriate undergraduate degree in any field.

Admission to graduate programmes in Marine Engineering is granted to students who have earned 50% of a B.E/B.Tech degree in a relevant field. In order to be considered for admission, they must also show up for the MEO Class II & IV Part-A CoC Exam.
