Navi Mumbai to Have Its 1st PG Medical College by May 2023
After much deliberation, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has finally decided on a deadline to establish the region’s first ever PG medical college, which will be May 2023. The aim is to commence admissions in the flagship courses by this time.
The statement of the NMMC Commissioner Abhijit Bangar encapsulates the aim of this decision aptly.
“The college will not be just a provision for the students in the city but will also provide better quality healthcare to the citizens of Navi Mumbai”
All the Necessary Steps Being Taken
NMMC Commissioner Abhijit Bangar has repeatedly emphasized to wrap up everything required to meet this deadline. This includes getting the necessary government and health permits as well as the manpower, infrastructural developments, and important medical equipment.
While the government body is taking care of the above, reports say that the staff has been asked to work on the hostel as well as library facilities.
Other Important Details
NMMC Additional Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Kakade recently chaired a committee, which presented a detailed project report to commissioner Bangar. This was followed by a meeting where the said details regarding the launch of the medical college were revealed.
Some of the most important details coming out of this meeting that need to be kept in mind are: -
- 1- In the 1st phase, the plan is to start admissions and classes in 5 specialities namely Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Medicine, Surgery, and Gynecology.
- 2- As part of Phase 1, medical colleges will operate from Vashi and Airoli hospitals.
- 3- As far as the other branches are concerned, they would be rolled out in 3 phases
- 4- There will be a separate space for the hostels
Apart from this, the Health Department will conduct regular review meetings to ensure swift developments and timely launch of the college.
