The founding father of Saveetha Engineering College (SEC), Dr. N.M. Veeraiyan, is a dentist by trade. With 12 UG courses including Agricultural, Artificial Intelligence & Data Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Civil, Chemical, CSE, ECE, EEE, EIE, IT, Mechanical, and Medical Electronics, and 8 PG courses including MBA, the college can accommodate a total of 4349 students. Founded in 2001, Saveetha Engineering College (SEC) is a private, autonomous university. It adheres to state regulations for admissions and is associated with Anna University.

Admission to B.E and B.Tech programmes is available to students who completed their 10+2 education in Tamil Nadu or any other Anna University-accredited institution. Admissions are granted based on merit and applications are submitted through TNEA.

Admission to M.E. programmes is available to students who meet the TANCET, CET, or GATE requirements. If the students hold a B.E/B.Tech degree in a relevant field, they are qualified. Applications are accepted via TANCA for counselling as well as admissions.

Students wishing to apply for MBA admissions must be eligible to take the MAT, CET, or TANCET and hold an undergraduate degree in any field. Applications are accepted via the MBA counselling programme at TANCA.

Admission to Ph.D. programmes is determined by the UGC-NET/JRF scores, with direct admission requiring an interview. Based on their M.E./M.Tech test results, students who are not NET/JRF qualified are invited to take an internal entrance exam.

After passing the internal entrance exam, the candidate will be invited to a group meeting and then a one-on-one interview. Applications may be turned in in person at the college in an offline manner.

In 2018–19, 87 reputable businesses provided 93% of the students with an on-campus placement. Nine LPA was the highest package available.
