SRM University Medical Centre Expansion: Improved Health Facilities for Students

SRM University Medical Centre Expansion: Improved Health Facilities for Students

SRM‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ University (Arunachal Pradesh) has expanded and upgraded its Medical Centre to provide quality 24/7 healthcare to students, faculty, and staff. The centre has also increased its staff to five full-time doctors, including a paediatrician, along with seven trained nurses and emergency care personnel. It has gone from a two-bed unit to an eight-bed centre and is now equipped with semi-advanced machines for diagnosis and treatment.

To scale up lab services, the university has collaborated with Apollo Diagnostics, Durga Labs, and Ramesh Labs in Mangalagiri. Although treatments are mostly done on the campus, students requiring specialised tests like X-rays, scans, or advanced medical care are sent to Manipal Hospital or NRI Hospital. The university also provides complete transport assistance in such ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌situations.

Statements‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ from University Leadership

Vice-Chancellor Ch. Satish Kumar said that the health and well-being of the students and the staff are the topmost priority of the university. He also mentioned that the renovated Medical Centre is a significant move to extend support to the whole campus community. Director of Student Affairs, Retired Major General Gurdeep Singh Narang, said that every student is insured and the insurance provides cashless admission for the first 24 hours at partner hospitals.

According to him, this arrangement is a safety measure and support system for the university. Besides that, he also said that the university not only takes care of its students through treatment but also regularly organises health awareness programs and wellness camps for students, staff, and nearby communities to create a healthy ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌environment.

Upcoming‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Health Camps and Community Outreach

The university is planning to organise various health camps such as eye check-ups, dental check-ups, skin consultations, general health screenings, and gynaecology camps. Women will be involved in awareness sessions on topics like PCOS, HPV vaccination, cervical cancer, and other major cancers. Besides, experts from the field of medicine will be there to give advice on the prevention of gastrointestinal cancers, the management of lifestyle-related diseases, and skin health.

Along with the Medical Centre team, the Student Affairs office will take the initiative to conduct health camps for students of Classes 1 to 5 at the Kuragallu PHC school as a part of their community outreach ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌program.
