HPSET Exam 2025, organized by the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC), is a crucial exam for individuals who are aiming to become Assistant Professors in the state's higher education institutions. The HPSET 2025 application form window was tentatively set to open on 5 July 2025 and close by 28 July 2025, with the examination likely to be held on 1st week of August 2025. Application fees are expected to be in the range of INR 325 to INR 1150, depending on the candidate’s category and their place of residence.

Candidates are required to first register using the One Time Registration System (OTRS), then log in to fill out the application form with personal, academic, and subject details. The exam paper consists of two papers: Paper I, which tests general teaching and research aptitude, and Paper II, which is subject-specific based on the candidate’s postgraduation discipline. Paper I has 50 questions for 100 marks, while Paper II includes 100 questions for 200 marks, making a total of 150 multiple-choice questions to be completed in three hours. There is no negative marking, and the exam is offered in over 20 subjects.

HP SET Admit Card 2025

The HP SET admit card will be released by the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) on first week of August 2025 (tentative) before the start of the exam, which is tentatively scheduled to occur on August 2025. The candidates who will complete the application process and have paid the required fee will be able to download their admit cards from the official HPPSC website. 

The HP SET admit card consists of important details like the candidate’s name, roll number of the candidate, exam date and time, venue, and important exam day instructions for candidates. It is mandatory to carry a printed copy of the admit card along with a valid photo identity proof to the exam centre, as entry will not be permitted inside the centre without it.

HP SET Answer Key 2025

The Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) is expected to release the HP SET answer key on 2nd week of August, a few days after the exam, HP set 2025 exam date is scheduled for 1st week of August 2025. A separate provisional answer key for Paper I and subject-wise Paper II will be published in a PDF format on the official HPPSC website. Candidates can access their results by logging in with their roll number, date of birth and security captcha. 

The HP SET result consists of some key details such as the name of the candidate, their roll number, the subject they have chosen, the marks obtained by them, and their qualifying status. HPPSC will also release a merit list featuring the names of candidates who have scored above the cut-off. Those who qualify will be eligible to participate in the counselling and document verification process for Assistant Professor positions in Himachal Pradesh colleges.

HP SET Counselling and Seat Allotment Process 

The HP SET (Himachal Pradesh State Eligibility Test) does not have a centralised counselling or seat allotment process like entrance exams for admission to academic programs. Qualifying for the HP SET exam simply makes a candidate eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor in colleges and universities across Himachal Pradesh. 

Once candidates clear the HP SET exam, they will receive an eligibility certificate from the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC). This certificate is proof of their qualification, and it can be used when the candidate is applying for the post of Assistant Professor vacancies in various institutions in the state. Each college or university conducts its own recruitment process, which normally consists of an interview round, then document verification, and other selection criteria depending on the respective institute as per UGC and state government norms.

While there’s no formal seat allotment or centralised counselling, the HP SET certificate is a mandatory qualification for applying to various teaching positions in Himachal Pradesh.

HP SET 2025 Eligibility Criteria

HPSET exam 2025 Eligibility criteria are set by the HPSC, and candidates are required to adhere to them in order to be eligible for the HP SET. It consists of three categories, including educational eligibility, general eligibility and special eligibility, which may be required by a few candidates depending upon their scenario.

General Eligibility 

• Must be a citizen of India.
• No upper age limit to apply.
• HP SET qualification is valid only for Assistant Professor posts within Himachal Pradesh.

Educational Eligibility

• Master’s degree or equivalent from a UGC-recognised university in subjects including Humanities (including languages), Social Sciences, and Computer Science & Applications.
• Minimum marks required:
• 55% for General and EWS candidates.
• 50% for SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), PWD, and BPL candidates of Himachal Pradesh.
• Final-year postgraduates or those awaiting results can apply, but must complete their degree within two years of the result declaration.

Special Eligibility

• Ph.D. holders who completed their degree by September 19, 1992, get a 5% relaxation in qualifying marks.
• Reserved category candidates from outside Himachal Pradesh will be treated as General category for this exam.

The HPSET Application Form 2025 was to start on 5 July 2025* and fill out the HP SET 2025 application form last date on 28 July 2025*, so applicants must complete the process well before the deadline to avoid last-minute problems with the correction window open until last week of July 2025. Candidates can apply online through the official HPPSC website. The application fee for it was INR 1150 for General and EWS candidates, INR 600 for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/EWS candidates of Himachal Pradesh, and INR 325 for SC, ST, PWD, and BPL applicants from Himachal Pradesh.

The HP SET cutoff 2025 means the minimum marks a candidate should secure to qualify for eligibility as Assistant Professors in Himachal Pradesh. It is released by the HPPSC along with the results, and it varies by category and subject. According to the trends of the precious years, the general category candidates are required to score at least 40% (i.e., 120 out of 300), while candidates from OBC, SC, ST, and other reserved categories need a minimum of 35% (i.e., 105 out of 300) to qualify. These limits may change as they are influenced by factors such as the number of applicants, exam difficulty, and available vacancies. Those candidates who have exceeded the cutoff will be given the HP SET exam certificate.
